President Erdoğan: We will gradually start to return to normal life

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered remarks via videoconference following the meeting of the Presidential Cabinet.

Underscoring that Turkey as a state and a nation have waged an exemplary fight against COVID-19 while even most of the developed countries have had difficulties in taking the situation under control, President Erdoğan said: “We have developed our own methods of diagnosis and treatment for the disease and put them into practice. By doing so, we have kept our mortality rate very low and successfully curbed the spread of the disease. The number of new cases in our country is now around 1000s. While the number of patients in intensive care or of intubated patients constantly continue to drop, the number of recovered patients have soared. Thanks to the devoted efforts of all our healthcare workers, including our doctors and nurses, there has not been a single scene at our hospitals that wounded our consciences.”

Also drawing attention to the efforts abroad, President Erdoğan continued: “We have brought nearly 65 thousand citizens back to our country via the airline bridges we have formed. The number of the people we have brought back to their homeland has reached 29 thousand since April 16 alone.” President Erdoğan went on to say that besides meeting its own needs, Turkey has also delivered medical aid supplies to 57 different countries, last of which he highlighted to Somalia. “We continue in cooperation with the international community the works to develop medicine and vaccine, too,” the President added.

President Erdoğan noted: “We will gradually start to return to normal life. However, we must always keep in our minds the fact that as will be the case in the entire world, nothing in our country, either, will ─ or can ─ totally return to ‘normal’ that we used to know.”

“LIBYA’S SECURITY IS THE KEY TO THE STABILITY OF THE ENTIRE NORTH AFRICA AND THE MEDITERRANEAN”

Also touching upon the recent developments in Libya, President Erdoğan, pointing out that thanks to the support Turkey gives to Libya’s legitimate government, putschist Haftar is losing ground, noted: “Even the efforts of the countries that provide unlimited financial support and weapons to Haftar, who has come into conflict even with the people in the lands he has been occupying, will be enough to save him. We will, inshallah, get new good news from Libya, soon. Libya’s security and the peace and prosperity of the Libyan people are the key to the stability of the entire North Africa and the Mediterranean. With this understanding, we are determined to turn the area once again into a region of peace by maintaining our support for the legitimate Libyan government.”
