“We will not have any problem with the vaccine supply”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered reporters’ questions after performing the Friday prayer at Hz. Ali Mosque in Istanbul.
In answer to a question on vaccine supply, President Erdoğan stated that there would not be any problem with the vaccine supply and noted that Turkey already had sufficient vaccines.
“OUR INDIGENOUS VACCINE WILL GO INTO PRODUCTION BY SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER”
“We have conducted talks with Russia and the Sputnik vaccine will be delivered. If necessary, I will speak with Mr. President. After our talk with President Putin on this matter, a significant amount of Sputnik vaccines will come from Russia,” President Erdoğan said.
Noting that promises were made regarding the BioNTech vaccine, which would also be delivered, President Erdoğan said: “In the first half of the next month, I will have a conversation with President Xi Jinping on this matter. After a significant amount of vaccines are supplied from there, we will have reached the aimed number. I do not believe there will be an extraordinary situation.”
In answer to a question on Turkey’s indigenous vaccine, President Erdoğan said: “Our universities and pharmaceutical companies are actively working on it. According to their promises, our indigenous vaccine will go into production by September-October.”
“IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO REACH AN AGREEMENT UNLESS THE SOUTHERN CYPRUS ACTS HONESTLY”
On the Cyprus talks in Geneva, President Erdoğan said: “I do not trust or believe the Southern Cyprus. They have never acted or spoken truthfully. Now, the talks have been pushed back two or three months. I do not think the talks will yield any results because they are not honest. They lied and deceived during the talks at the Bürgenstock Summit. They did not respect the following referendum. 65 percent of the North voted ‘yes’ while that many people said ‘no’ in the South. They are liars. They are not honest. They are doing the same thing again. As you know, talks were held between our foreign ministers recently. They came and said all sorts of things. When they act honestly, it will be reciprocated. However, it is not possible to reach an agreement with them unless they act honestly.”
