President Erdoğan: We will save our seas, first and foremost the Marmara Sea, from the scourge of mucilage
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan virtually addressed the opening ceremony of nation’s gardens, bicycle roads, waste recycling facilities and water treatment plants in various parts of the country on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The nation’s gardens project expands the green areas in cities and contributes to the social infrastructure needed by all, said the President, noting that the millions of trees planted in city centers as part of the nation’s gardens project will live for centuries both as a shadow under which one can peacefully rest and as a symbol which will instill a love of nature in children.
“WE WILL INTEGRATE OUR COUNTRY WITH THE EUROPEAN CYCLE ROUTE NETWORK”
Describing bicycle roads as a kind of service that enhances people’s life quality in cities, President Erdoğan said: “When we have wrapped up the Turkey Bicycle Road Master Plan, the preparations of which are underway, we will have integrated our country with the European cycle route network. We will be making efforts to finalize, by the summer months of this year, the application projects regarding the completed routes of the plan. Once the project is fully realized, our citizens will be able to travel by bicycle from Edirne to Hakkari safely and easily.”
Also touching upon the sea snot problem afflicting the Marmara Sea, President Erdoğan underscored that the issue will be addressed by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in cooperation with universities, and added: “Just as we cleaned the Haliç, which actually was a bigger problem, we will save our seas from the scourge of mucilage as well.”
