President Erdoğan: With the aim of a greener Turkey, we are conducting the largest afforestation campaign in the history of the Republic
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at “Breath for the Future, Breath for the World” event on November 11 National Afforestation Day.
Thanking Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary and representatives of various countries and international organizations for their participation in the event, President Erdoğan said: “I offer my gratitude to everyone who gifted a breath to the future by planting a sapling.”
“OUR COUNTRY IS ONE OF THE FEW COUNTRIES THAT HAVE INCREASED ITS FOREST AREAS WHILE FORESTS ARE SHRINKING IN THE WORLD”
Noting that Turkey, after fighting against its injustices, signed the Paris Climate Agreement and announced a zero emission goal for 2053, President Erdoğan said: “We have placed the Green Development Revolution at the heart of our vision for 2053, which is Turkey’s most important medium and long term projection. The 5th article of the Paris Climate Agreement aims to protect and enhance forests.”
Underscoring that they would always play a leading role in enhancing forest reservoirs, President Erdoğan said: “With the aim of a greener Turkey, we have been conducting for the past 19 years the largest afforestation campaign in the history of the Republic. Our country is one of the few countries that have increased its forest reservoirs while forests are shrinking in the world. In the past 19 years, we have planted 5.5 billion saplings, reaching 1.5 times the total afforestation level of the previous 57 years”.
