President Erdoğan: Women had an important role in these lands becoming a country
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended an event held in Şanlıurfa on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day.
Delivering a speech during the event, President Erdoğan congratulated all the women in Turkey and the world on International Women’s Day, underlining that just as people cannot be discriminated because of their skin color, social status, and levels of education and income, they cannot be discriminated because of their gender, either.
“WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ON THE SIDE OF OUR WOMEN”
Stating that he has struggled through all his life for women to be treated as they deserve, President Erdoğan noted: “We have always believed that violence, injustices and mistreatment against women target all the humanity directly, and have put up our political struggle accordingly. We have always been on the side of our women even at the cost of disagreeing with our closest ones at times. We have always exerted ourselves to take our women to their rightful place they deserve in all parts of life.”
“WOMEN HAD AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THESE LANDS BECOMING A COUNTRY”
Drawing attention to the protective and productive features of the Anatolian women, President Erdoğan underscored that women had an important role in these lands becoming a country. Pointing out that 104 women were elected as members of the Parliament in the last elections, which he highlighted corresponds to a 17.5 percent parliamentary representation ratio, the highest throughout Turkey’s history, President Erdoğan said there are also two women ministers in the cabinet and four women deputy ministers but that they do not find it enough, adding that in the period ahead, they will strive to provide the Turkish women with the opportunities they deserve in every sphere of life.
