“WE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IN OUR ENDEAVORS TO ELEVATE OUR COUNTRY TO ITS RIGHTFUL POSITION”

“As a country with the 6^th most extensive diplomatic mission in the world, we annually gather our ambassadors in our country and hold comprehensive consultations during which we set new goals. This year as well, we conducted a tour d’horizon extending from past to present and embracing the future during the meeting held on August 8 under the theme of ‘Wise and Compassionate Turkish Diplomacy on the Eve of 2023 and Beyond.’ Inshallah, together with our diplomats, we will be successful in our endeavors to elevate our country to its rightful position in the transformation of the global governance system which we highlight by saying ‘the World is bigger than five’.” 

“We farewelled our vessel, the Abdulhamid Han—which is a concrete example of the fact that we are now a country that possesses one of the leading drilling fleets globally—from Mersin Taşucu to its mission offshore Antalya Gazipaşa on August 9. This drillship, which I believe will crown with new good news our joy to have discovered 540 bcm natural gas in the Black Sea, also symbolizes our will to defend our rights and interests in the Mediterranean.”

“Following this joyful farewell ceremony, we carried out inspections at the construction site of the nuclear power plant in Akkuyu. We will inshallah have taken another step in the path to liberating our country from foreign dependency in energy by implementing the first unit of this plant next year.”

“Later in the day, we started the 5^th Islamic Solidarity Games, attended by athletes from 56 countries, in Konya. I hope the Islamic Solidarity Games, the opening ceremony of which was attended by a large number of heads of state and government, including my treasured brother President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, would further strengthen sports’ role in unifying and consolidating friendship and fraternity.”  

“We attach special importance to maintaining our close relations with our friends and brothers in the Balkans, particularly during the current period when there is increasing fragility in the region. Accordingly, I met with Prime Minister Edi Rama of Albania on 10 August and I will also go on a Balkan tour covering three countries. On the same day, I hosted President Borut Pahor of Slovenia at the Presidential Complex during his official visit to Türkiye.”

“I view King of Malaysia Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s visit to our country on August 16 as a historic milestone in terms of the enhancement of the relations between the two countries. We were together along with our families last evening as well, during which we discussed the steps which we can take in the period ahead as regards the relations between the two countries.”

“IT IS THANKS TO OUR EFFORTS THAT A MECHANISM TO AVERT A GRAIN CRISIS HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED”

“The Russia-Ukraine war, one of the most important crises in the world, still rages on with its implications for the whole humanity along with our country.  It has been witnessed by all that we as Türkiye have exerted every effort in order to first prevent this war and then to find a peaceful solution to it. It is thanks to our efforts that a mechanism to avert a grain crisis has been established. Given that Russia and Ukraine produce more than one third of world’s grain, even starting the shipment of the Ukrainian grain to the world through Türkiye is a critical development.”

“We continue our efforts in order for our country’s balanced, peaceful and solution-oriented approach in the Russia-Ukraine crisis to have positive repercussions in other areas as well in the days to come. On August 5 in Sochi, I and Mr. Putin had had the opportunity to thoroughly discuss the bilateral relations, other regional developments, and of course the Ukraine war besides this issue. And last Thursday, I went to Ukraine, where I had a similar meeting with Mr. Zelensky with the participation of UN Secretary-General Mr. Guterres. Our goal is to bring Mr. Putin and Mr. Zelensky together in our country in the not too distant future and pave the way for a permanent solution to this crisis.”

“It is true that it is in the area of economy that we have faced the biggest challenges recently with the ‘interest rate-exchange rate-inflation’ equation. Taking into account the developments in the world and our country’s strength, we have begun to follow a new program in this area starting from 2018, when we came under such an overt threat as to destroy our economy. It took a while for the theoretical background and practical logic of this program, which is based on growth through investments, employment, production, exports and current surplus, to be understood.”

“Those, who in the past made a habit of ripping off our country by means of financial fluctuations and assets movements like in many parts of the world, are working very hard to make us revert to the same old path. However, having drawn up its own economic roadmap, our country determinedly marches towards the goal of the great and powerful Türkiye. What Türkiye needs is not to raise interest rates but to increase investments, employment, production, exports and current surplus.”
