“The Eurofighter agreement is yet another symbol of our strategic relationship with the United Kingdom”
Holding a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Starmer, President Erdoğan said: “The implementation agreements on the procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets were signed during the inter-delegation meetings. Mr. Starmer and I just undersigned the declaration of cooperation on this issue. I view this agreement as yet another symbol of our strategic relationship as two close allied countries.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom held a joint press conference following their meeting at the Presidential Complex.
“WE REMAIN STEADFAST IN OUR DETERMINATION TO REINFORCE OUR ECONOMIC RELATIONS”
Noting that the focus of today’s talks with Mr. Starmer was on trade and defense relations, President Erdoğan stated: “As you know, the UK is one of Türkiye’s top trade and investment partners. We are committed to increasing our trade volume to 30 billion dollars in the first stage and then to 40 billion dollars, and we remain steadfast in our determination to reinforce our economic relations. Our relevant institutions are taking the necessary steps in this direction, including updating our free trade agreement. We also focus on opportunities to undertake joint investments in third countries. We aim to cultivate new partnerships in energy and defense industry.”
Expressing his pleasure over the large number of British citizens who consider Türkiye their second home, President Erdoğan stated: “In a bid to fully benefit from this potential, we initiated the negotiations on the signing of a cooperation framework document. I am confident that with these steps we will swiftly further our relations and strategic partnership.”
President Erdoğan went on: “The implementation agreements on the procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets were signed during the inter-delegation meetings. Mr. Starmer and I just undersigned the declaration of cooperation on this issue. I view this agreement as yet another symbol of our strategic relationship as two close allied countries. I would like to thank Mr. Starmer and his team for the efforts they exerted at the Eurofighter Consortium throughout the process. I also would like to express my appreciation for the constructive stance displayed by the leaders of the other allied members of the Consortium. I believe that this cooperation with the United Kingdom will also pave the way for joint projects in the defense industry.”
“I CONGRATULATE MR. STARMER ON THEIR RECOGNITION OF THE STATE OF PALESTINE”
Pointing out that today’s talks also offered an opportunity to review the developments in Gaza, President Erdoğan said: “On this occasion, I would like to congratulate Mr. Prime Minister once again on their recognition of the State of Palestine. We regard this decision as a brave step on the path to two-state solution.”
President Erdoğan continued: “Considering the looming winter conditions, it is of critical importance to ensure access to the humanitarian aid needed by the people of Gaza. I believe we can take joint steps with the UK on this issue. We all have responsibilities to preserve the ceasefire reached in Gaza and to prevent violations. In this regard, the current government in Israel must be reined in. We also reviewed the latest developments in Ukraine. We reaffirmed our shared stance that a solution through a just peace must be reached in this war, which is about to complete its fourth year. We also emphasized during today’s talks that it is imperative to support the Syrian Government to achieve lasting stability in Syria. We underscored that concurrently with these efforts, the attempts of internal and external actors to drag the country into instability must be prevented.”
