“There can be no excuse for failing to stop the atrocities in Gaza”

Addressing the “SCO Plus” session of the 25th SCO summit, President Erdoğan said: “There can be no excuse for failing, for 23 months, to stop the atrocities in Gaza in which babies, children and the elderly are being starved to death. I believe that it is our collective responsibility to turn the United Nations into a platform that represents global justice in the face of the oppression the Palestinian people, particularly those in Gaza, have been subjected to for years.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the “SCO Plus” session of the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in China.

“THE UN IS IN NEED OF A SERIOUS REFORM IN ORDER TO FULFILL ITS RESPONSIBILITIES”

President Erdoğan said: “Global problems can be resolved only by increasing our efforts on the basis of cooperation and effective multilateralism. In our view, the point where this can be realized is the multilateral system, at the heart of which lies the United Nations. However, it seems that the United Nations is in need of a serious reform in order to fulfill its responsibilities.”

President Erdoğan stated: “Despite all the efforts of my esteemed friend Mr. Guterres, it is quite difficult to claim that the current system, dictated by the circumstances of 80 years ago, is capable of fulfilling what is expected of it in stopping the atrocities in the Middle East or in maintaining the rules-based international system. If the international community is unable to prevent over 63 thousand Gazans, mostly children, women and the elderly, from being massacred and is unable to stop innocent infants from being starved to death, then we must all sit down and think.”

“I OFFER MY GRATITUDE TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO SPEAK UP FOR PALESTINE”

“There can be no excuse for failing, for 23 months, to stop the atrocities in Gaza in which babies, children and the elderly are being starved to death,” President Erdoğan stressed. “I believe that it is our collective responsibility to turn the United Nations into a platform that represents global justice in the face of the oppression the Palestinian people, particularly those in Gaza, have been subjected to for years. I hereby offer my gratitude to all my friends, to all with a conscience who speak up for the entirety of the Palestinian people, including Gaza and the West Bank.”

President Erdoğan went on: “In Syria, doors have now opened for a new era offering historic opportunities for lasting regional peace and stability. The support we will provide in order to bring Syria back on its feet while preserving its territorial integrity and political unity will benefit our entire region. We will continue to stand against any attempt that threatens the security and territorial integrity of our neighbor Syria.”

“DEVELOPMENTS IN ENERGY AND CONNECTIVITY ARE VITAL FOR GLOBAL STABILITY”

“The recent steps taken to ensure lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in the South Caucasus and Central Asia are pleasing. We hope that these steps will contribute to the development of social, financial and commercial relations as well as to the inauguration of transportation and communication lines. Our close cooperation with the brotherly countries in the Central Asia continues to grow stronger in bilateral and multilateral platforms. The steps we take within the Organization of Turkic States contribute to stability in not only the brotherly countries but across the wider region as well,” President Erdoğan said.

President Erdoğan continued: “We maintain our efforts in 2025 in line with our goal of hosting the COP31 World Leaders Climate Action Summit. Türkiye sees developments in the field of energy and connectivity as vital for global stability, economic development, energy supply security and sustainable growth. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a critical platform for improving energy security and establishing partnerships on strategic infrastructure projects. With our geostrategic location right at the intersection of Asia, Europe and the Middle, we, as the westernmost Asian and the easternmost European, continue to provide contributions to the uninterrupted and safe continuation of transportation and communication.”

“TÜRKİYE’S VISION IS TO RESOLVE ISSUES THROUGH DIALOGUE, DIPLOMACY AND COOPERATION”

President Erdoğan noted: “We maintain our efforts to revive the ancient Silk Road through the Trans-Caspian East-West-Middle Corridor initiative, while also endeavoring to harmonize it with the Belt and Road initiative. We also aim to interconnect a vast geography through the Development Road project, which we have implemented in the North-Southeast direction.”

President Erdoğan added: “Türkiye’s vision is to resolve issues through dialogue, diplomacy and cooperation, based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. Within this framework, we aim for economic development, trade, and a world order that prioritizes the prosperity of societies. I hope to strengthen our cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which stands as the present-day representative of the tradition of finding joint solutions to problems.”
