“Turkic world should assume a more effective role in terms of regional stability and security”

Addressing the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, President Erdoğan said: “We believe that the Turkic world can assume a more effective role in many senses in terms of our region’s stability and security. It is important that our Organization displays a determined stance against numerous conflicts, wars and international law violations occurring in our near geography.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held under the theme of “Regional Peace and Security” in Gabala, Azerbaijan.

“UNSC REMAINS INDIFFERENT TO MANY MATTERS”

Stating that the world is faced with an international system in which the United Nations Security Council remains indifferent to many matters wounding the conscience of the humanity, President Erdoğan said: “Since a great number of international and regional organizations were not built on such sacred values like ours as shared history, culture and ideals, they are seen as functionless structures, a burden, so to speak. Therefore, it is of great importance that our Organization turns into a reliable structure that adapts to these very changing conditions, displays a common stance and stands by the right in international matters. We as Türkiye find it extremely accurate and noteworthy that the theme of our Summit has been determined as ‘Regional Peace and Security’ during such a period.”

“ONLY A TWO-STATE SOLUTION WILL OPEN THE DOOR TO A LASTING AND JUST PEACE”

“We believe that the Turkic world can assume a more effective role in many senses in terms of our region’s stability and security,” President Erdoğan noted, and added: “It is important that our Organization displays a determined stance against numerous conflicts, wars and international law violations occurring in our near geography. The Israeli government’s attacks, which have started with Lebanon and Syria, continued with Yemen and Iran, and lastly targeted Qatar, have shown that the biggest threat to our region originates from that country’s current administration. The recent developments taking place for the termination of the massacres, which have claimed the lives of 66 thousand innocents in Gaza, are pleasing. We believe that only a two-state solution based on the Palestinian people’s rights stemming from international legitimacy and law will open the door to a lasting and just peace, and determinedly continue our works to that end.”

“WE SHOULD ENHANCE OUR ENGAGEMENTS WITH SYRIAN GOVERNMENT”

Drawing attention to the importance of the establishment of stability in Syria in terms of security in and beyond the region, President Erdoğan said: “Despite many difficulties they have been dealing with, the progress the Syrian government has made in the past nine months makes us look to the future with hope. We as the Turkic states should focus on the improvement of the political, economic and security environment on the basis of the preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity and unity during this process, and enhance our engagements with the Syrian government.”

“We not only follow the developments in the Southern Caucasus, but also sincerely support the steps taken for the regional peace and stability. We see the joint declaration signed by Azerbaijan and Armenia on August 8 as an auspicious step of this kind, and hope for the continuation of it,” President Erdoğan stressed.

“TURKIC STATES SHOULD MAKE JOINT INVESTMENTS IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY”

Pointing out that it will be beneficial for all the countries within the Organization that they focus on projects and investments, which will make the energy and communication ties among the countries efficient and strengthen them, President Erdoğan said: “We should make the Trans-Caspian Middle Corridor more productive. In order to reach our rightful place in the area of science and technology at the soonest possible time, we as the Turkic states should build strong cooperation and make joint investments with high-added value in this area. We should accelerate the development of the great Turkish language model in order to protect our cultural richness and keep up with the global developments regarding artificial intelligence. We as Türkiye take the first step regarding the common alphabet, and publish Oğuznameler and another piece about Chingiz Aitmatov in the common alphabet.”

Voicing his pleasure over the presence of President Ersin Tatar of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Gabala following Ankara, Shusha, and Bishkek, President Erdoğan noted that he is gladly witnessing that the Turkic world does not leave alone its Turkish Cypriot brothers and sisters on the path to a two-state fair solution.
