“Violence against women and children is a crime against humanity”
Speaking at an event held for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, President Erdoğan said: “I would like it to be known that I, as both the President of Türkiye and the father of two daughters, just as has been the case so far, will spearhead the efforts to eliminate violence against women and children from now on as well. Violence against human, the noblest creature, particularly against women and children is a crime against humanity, a betrayal to humanity.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at an event held for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women at Beştepe Nation’s Convention and Culture Center.
“I WILL SPEARHEAD THE EFFORTS TO ELIMINATE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN”
President Erdoğan said: “I would like it to be known that I, as both the President of Türkiye and the father of two daughters, just as has been the case so far, will spearhead the efforts to eliminate violence against women and children from now on as well. Violence against human, the noblest creature, particularly against women and children is a crime against humanity, a betrayal to humanity.”
Stating that he does not approve of discussing the issue of violence against women and children over figures or statistics, President Erdoğan noted: “The reason for it is not that Türkiye is in a worse situation than others on this matter. On the contrary, we are way ahead of European countries. We have put into practice the preventive and protective regulations that the European countries, which have been shown us as a model, have not, even could not do.”
“WE ARE FACED WITH PROTRACTED AND SHAMEFUL DOUBLE STANDARDS”
Pointing out that thousands of people, especially women and children, are subjected to physical or psychological violence every day in the world, President Erdoğan said every year 2.3 thousand women are killed mercilessly by their husbands or ex-husbands in Europe, and that the burden of conflicts and wars are also suffered by women and children the most.
Reminding that the number of the children massacred by Israel in Gaza in the past two years has exceeded 20 thousand, President Erdoğan went on to say: “Unfortunately, women and children constitute the two third of the 70 thousand Palestinians, who were martyred in the Gaza genocide. These are terrifying figures for those who have conscience. One with a sense of humanity cannot remain indifferent to these tragedies. And yet, we are faced with protracted, saddening and shameful double standards. As we all have witnessed, the necessary reaction has not been given to the barbarity against the women of Gaza for two years. The identities of the perpetrator and the victim have determined the dosage of the reaction to be given here as well. Unfortunately, pressure in proportion to the gravity of the murders it has committed have yet to be put on Israel.”
President Erdoğan added that those, who adjust the extent of their reactions according to the identities of perpetrators and victims, take part in oppressions and injustices as much as those who commit that crime.
