President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at a Foundations Week event at the Beştepe Convention and Culture Center in Ankara.
Underlining that the Directorate General of Foundations has been performing the duty of protecting, enriching and transferring the long-standing foundation tradition to the future for 101 years, President Erdoğan said: “I congratulate the 101st anniversary of the establishment of our Directorate General, which fulfills a very heavy responsibility in terms of our history, memory, identity and future.”
“NEARLY 70 THOUSAND FOUNDATIONS ARE CURRENTLY ACTIVE”
“Nearly 70 thousand foundations are currently active in areas such as health, social services, social assistance, education, research, culture, arts, sports, development, law, human rights and environment. Our Directorate General of Foundations, which has taken over such a deep-rooted and powerful heritage, has been conducting its work at home and abroad with great care and success for 101 years. In line with the will of the endowers, we are keeping our foundations alive, strengthening them in accordance with today's conditions, and endeavoring to ensure that our cultural heritage is passed on to future generations,” President Erdoğan said.
President Erdoğan inaugurated via video link historical monuments in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Albania, Tokat and Gaziantep.
Erdoğan, who first connected to the TRNC, was welcomed by President Ersin Tatar of the TRNC. President Tatar thanked President Erdoğan for the Republic Complex, opened in the TRNC last week.
Sharing information about the history of the newly-restored Selimiye Mosque, President Tatar said: “This is a monument with a history of 1000 years. There is history here, spirituality here, our past here, everything. I salute the work done here with the great efforts of the Directorate General of Foundations in the last 4.5 years. I thank them and all the workers very much. It is really a great gain for the TRNC.”
President Erdoğan made his second live connection to the Iskodra Mosque in Albania. Recalling the serious floods in the region where the mosque is located, President Erdoğan said: “We saved it from that and brought it to its current state. Thus, we have put the Iskodra Mosque at the service of Muslims.”
President Erdoğan then made live connections to Gök Medrese in Tokat and Kurtuluş Mosque in Gaziantep. Reminding that Kurtuluş Mosque was destroyed in the earthquake, Erdoğan stated that they rebuilt and restored the mosque.
President Erdoğan cut the ribbon and inaugurated 101 historical monuments whose restoration was completed.
