“We discussed updating our trade volume target to 10 billion dollars with Hungary”

Holding a joint press conference with Prime Minister Orban of Hungary, President Erdoğan said: “We are close to realising the 6-billion-dollar trade volume target we set forth together with Mr. Orban. Considering the strong trade potential we have, we discussed updating our trade volume target to 10 billion dollars.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary held a joint press conference following their meeting.

“During today’s talks, we not only reviewed our bilateral relations but also reaffirmed our determination to expand our cooperation in areas such as energy, transport, trade, defense and culture. From aviation to security, technology to culture and education, we signed various documents to consolidate the legal basis of our relations,” President Erdoğan said.

“WE ARE CLOSE TO REALISING THE 6-BILLION-DOLLAR TRADE VOLUME TARGET”

President Erdoğan stated: “Our ministers of foreign affairs and defense, along with the heads of intelligence and defense industry held the first meeting of the joint consultation mechanism, on whose establishment we formerly agreed on. Today, we also reached a decision to establish the joint planning group under the leadership of our foreign ministers in a bid to address bilateral and global issues in a much more institutional manner. Considering both of these mechanisms to be important in indicating the level our relations have reached, I believe that these consultative formats will bring additional contributions to the strengthening of our cooperation.”

President Erdoğan continued: “We see that the exceptional level we enjoy in our political relations has positive reflections onto the economic realm. As such, we are close to realising the 6-billion-dollar trade volume target we set forth together with Mr. Orban. Considering the strong trade potential we have, we discussed updating our trade volume target to 10 billion dollars. We have agreed to operate the existing economic and trade mechanisms in the most effective manner. We, for sure, also see that the partnerships we cultivate through concrete projects in defense industry yield favorable impacts in trade and investments, as well. Given the changing security conditions in Europe, we focus on projects that foresee joint production, which would enhance our cooperation in defense industry. Energy and transport, which we deem strategically important, are also high on our agenda. From research and development to digitalization, artificial intelligence to entrepreneurship, we have undertaken 28 joint actions and allocated resources to joint projects throughout 2025, which we announced as the Türkiye–Hungary Year of Science and Innovation.”

“WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT HUNGARY WILL MAINTAIN ITS CONSTRUCTIVE AND STRONG SUPPORT FOR OUR FULL EU MEMBERSHIP”

President Erdoğan said: “Today, we also exchanged views on the current regional and global issues, including the latest developments in the Middle East and Ukraine. Accordingly, I would like to express our appreciation for Hungary’s contributions to the works carried out by the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). The OTS Summit hosted last May by Hungary was of historic importance in that it was the first OTS Summit held within the borders of the European Union. We are confident that Hungary will maintain its constructive and strong support for our full EU membership, a strategic target for us.”

“Since the outset of the war, Türkiye has mobilized all the means of diplomacy for the establishment of a just and lasting peace between the sides. Our efforts in this regard are well known by the whole world. We will continue our efforts with the maxim that a just peace has no losers and a war no winners,” the President added.
