President Erdoğan added: “During a phone call with President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine at the weekend, we discussed Israel’s new plans to occupy Gaza. I expressed to Mr. Abbas Türkiye’s firm stance on this issue. We will not allow Netanyahu and his gang of murder to drag our region into a greater fire just for the sake of prolonging their political lifespans. In our capacity as the term president of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, we have convoked an extraordinary meeting of OIC foreign ministers. We are doing whatever it takes to stop the atrocities in Gaza and to deliver uninterrupted humanitarian aid to our Gazan brothers and sisters starved to death. We have mobilized all the means of our state and our entire diplomatic capabilities to be a glimmer of hope for Gaza.”

The agreement reached in Washington D.C. on August 8 was a historic step on the path to lasting peace in the South Caucasus. It is also pleasing that sanctions on Azerbaijan will no longer be on the agenda. I expressed to my brother Ilham our pleasure over all of these. I stressed that we as Türkiye will always stand with them. Today, we discussed the same issue with Prime Minister of Armenia, Mr. Pashinyan, as well. It is to the benefit of all countries in the region that the establishment of an environment of peace will enable the recovery of land roads and rail lines, the opening of border gates and the launch of free trade. We will host President of Georgia, Mr. Kavelashvili tomorrow in Ankara. We will continue our efforts to make sure that peace prevails in this geography extending from the Balkans to the Caucasus, from Africa to the Central Asia.”
